Arrival and Catania Market
You land in Catania and head straight into the city’s noisy, vivid core. La Pescheria wakes you up with shouts, crushed ice, and gleaming fish while you weave between stalls, tasting cones of fried seafood and street snacks. After lunch you wander around Piazza del Duomo, where lava-stone facades, the elephant fountain, and baroque churches set the tone for Sicily. Evening brings a slower walk back through the market streets for a sit‑down seafood dinner and your first glass of Etna wine.
Etna Wine Road to Taormina
Leaving Catania, you climb inland toward Etna’s northern slopes where black lava walls and tidy vineyards replace the coast. Late morning is for a guided tasting and cellar visit at a family-run Etna DOC winery, lingering over mineral whites and smoky reds with a long farm lunch. In the afternoon you drive on to Taormina, dropping down toward the sea as the town appears on its rocky terrace. An evening passeggiata along Corso Umberto and a view-filled dinner ease you into your new coastal base.
Taormina Lanes and Greek Theatre
Today is for settling into Taormina itself. A slow morning coffee and granita ease you into the town’s rhythm before you explore its narrow side streets, churches, and viewpoints. Midday is flexible for shopping, a light lunch, and perhaps a siesta. In the late afternoon you climb toward the ancient theatre, timing your visit so the light softens over Etna and the Ionian Sea. After soaking in one of Sicily’s most iconic views, you return to town for an unhurried dinner and an evening stroll.
