Your Journey — Preview
Arrival and Volos Seafront
You land at Nea Anchialos and pick up your car, leaving the flat farmland behind as the road curves toward Volos and its shimmering gulf. After checking in, you wander down to the port, where fishing boats rock gently and the smell of grilled octopus hangs in the air. A long meze lunch introduces you to Volos’ tsipouro culture, with small plates arriving in waves. As evening falls, you stroll the promenade again, lights flickering on across the water before an easy, early dinner.
Portaria Squares and Makrinitsa
Morning sees you winding up from Volos into the first Pelion villages, slate roofs and stone lanes appearing around each bend. In Portaria’s square, you pause over coffee before following the shaded Centaurs’ Path along a cool ravine. Lunch stretches under plane trees with slow service and generous portions. Later you drive a short way to Makrinitsa, where the village seems to hang in mid-air above the Pagasetic Gulf. You explore cobbled lanes, peer over balcony railings, and return to Portaria for a cozy village dinner.
Hania Pass and Mylopotamos
Today you trade village lanes for the ridge road, climbing through dense forest toward Hania Pass. The air cools, fog can cling to hollows, and glimpses of the Aegean flash through trees as you crest the spine of Pelion. After a coffee stop, you wind down to Mylopotamos, where white rocks and turquoise water feel almost unreal. The afternoon is for swimming through rock arches, sunning on smooth stones, and lingering in the shallows. By evening, you return to Portaria for a comforting tavern dinner.
