Your Journey — Preview
Arrival and Harbor First Taste
Landing in Helsinki, you step into dry, crisp winter air and ride the train into a city strung with Christmas lights. After dropping bags, the first stop is the Old Market Hall by the harbor for steaming salmon soup and rye bread as ferries move through the ice. A gentle wander around Market Square lets everyone stretch their legs and feel the snow underfoot before an early dinner under Esplanadi’s trees at Kappeli and a quiet first Nordic night.
Rock Church and Christmas Market
Today the city’s winter architecture and Christmas magic take center stage. After a cozy breakfast overlooking Senate Square, you visit the Temppeliaukio “Rock Church,” its copper dome glowing softly above rough-hewn stone. A hearty market-hall lunch keeps everyone warm before free time for tram-spotting and window shopping. As afternoon fades to deep blue, Senate Square lights up: cathedral, stalls, and the St. Thomas Christmas Market wrapped in pine and lanterns. You end with traditional Finnish flavors at Savotta right beside the square.
Skating and Harbor Saunas
Today is about being outside in the cold and then wonderfully, thoroughly warm again. You lace up skates at the seasonal rink on Railway Square, gliding under strings of lights as trams rattle past and chimneys steam nearby. After a casual bite at Allas Sea Pool’s café, you step into the outdoor pools and saunas overlooking the frozen harbor, kids dashing between hot tubs and snow. Evening brings a simple, hearty dinner back at Allas before one last walk past the lit-up market.
