Arrival and Lakebound Shift
You arrive in Milan and ease into Italy with a proper coffee rather than a checklist. From Malpensa, you reach Milano Centrale and grab a still-warm pastry at Pavé while watching the city move. Late morning, trains and a lakeside transfer pull you north toward the mountains. By afternoon you’re in Bellagio, bags dropped, wandering the promenade as ferries nose in and out. The day closes with dinner on a tucked-away stone lane, glasses clinking softly while the lake darkens beyond the rooftops.
Varenna’s Lanes and Terraces
Today is about Varenna’s storybook side of the lake. A short morning ferry carries you across bright water to the village, where steep alleys, geranium-filled balconies, and painted shutters create an easy backdrop for wandering. You follow the lakeside walkway into the tiny harbor and claim a table at Bar Il Molo, almost level with the ripples. After lunch, you drift through backstreets and along the passeggiata before an unhurried ferry back to Bellagio. Evening brings a terrace dinner at La Punta, where three branches of the lake meet below.
Como and Brunate Views
You swap village scale for a broader canvas today. A morning ferry glides you down to Como, its domes and neoclassical waterfront sliding into view. From there, the funicular clacks steadily up to Brunate, roofs dropping away until the lake lies like a long, silver ribbon below. After a short walk and sweeping vistas, you return to Como for a traditional lunch at Ristorante Sociale and a slow wander through its historic streets. By late afternoon you’re back in Bellagio, where dinner is unhurried in a casual osteria.
