Arrival and Fegina Beach
You arrive by train into La Spezia and slip along the coast to Monterosso, where pastel houses and a long sandy beach announce you’ve reached Cinque Terre. After dropping your bags, the day eases in with bare feet in the sand at Fegina and a first swim in the clear Ligurian water. Lunch is relaxed and sea-facing, followed by a gentle wander through Monterosso’s lanes and seaside promenade. As evening falls, you settle into a cozy piazza trattoria for local wine, anchovies, and your first taste of pesto.
Monterosso–Vernazza Coastal Hike
Today centers on Cinque Terre’s most iconic hike and Vernazza’s dramatic harbor. You set off early along the cliffside trail from Monterosso, climbing through terraced vineyards and olive groves with the sea glittering far below. Arriving in Vernazza, lunch unfolds on a cliffside terrace above the waves. The afternoon is for wandering pastel lanes, visiting the harbor, or a quick swim. As golden hour settles in, you climb to Castello Doria for sweeping views before riding the short train back to Monterosso for a relaxed, upscale dinner.
Beaches and Pesto Traditions
Today slows down into a rhythm of beach time and food. A lazy morning on Fegina’s sand and swimming in the bay gives you space to recover from yesterday’s hike. Lunch leans casual, with cones of fritto misto and slabs of focaccia eaten in the sea breeze. In the afternoon, you step into a pesto-focused workshop to see how basil from the surrounding terraces becomes Cinque Terre’s signature sauce. Evening brings a clifftop dinner, where the sun sinks behind the headland as plates of pasta and grilled fish arrive.
